Prof. Hechmi Louzir is a Professor of Medicine and Immunology at the Faculty of Medicine of Tunis \/ University of Tunis El Manar, and former General Director of the Institut Pasteur de Tunis, a position he held from July 2007 to October 2023.<\/span><\/p>\n

Following graduation from the Faculty of Medicine of Tunis, he completed residency at the Institut Pasteur in Paris.. At the end of 1988, he joined the Immunology Laboratory at the Institut Pasteur de Tunis and the Faculty of Medicine of Tunis as an Assistant Professor.\nHe developed numerous research programs on host-pathogen interactions and contributed to the development of educational programs in fundamental and clinical immunology<\/span>
<\/span> He is the author or co-author of over eighty scientific publications and several patents.\nHe was involved in over thirty research projects funded by international organizations and supervised the research work of more than forty students, including six PhD theses.<\/span><\/p>\n

Prof. Hechmi Louzir held the position of General Director at the Institut Pasteur de Tunis from July 2007 to October 2023. He was elected to the Assembly of the Institut Pasteur in Paris and became a member of the Executive Council of the International Network of Pasteur Institutes. He also coordinated the MATI region (Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Iran) from 2008 to 2019 and later, the Euro-Mediterranean region from 2021 to 2023.He also served on numerous scientific boards of institutes and international research organizations and acted as an expert evaluator for several research programs funded by the European Commission and other international agencies.<\/span><\/p>\n

During the COVID-19 crisis, he played a central role in managing the scientific response to the pandemic in Tunisia, leading the Scientific Vaccination Committee and overseeing the national vaccination campaign.<\/span><\/p>\n

Dipl\u00f4m\u00e9 de la Facult\u00e9 de M\u00e9decine de Tunis, il a poursuivi un internat \u00e0 l\u2019Institut Pasteur de Paris. \u00c0 la fin de l\u2019ann\u00e9e 1988, il rejoint le laboratoire d\u2019immunologie de l\u2019Institut Pasteur de Tunis ainsi que la Facult\u00e9 de M\u00e9decine de Tunis en tant que Ma\u00eetre-Assistant. Il a d\u00e9velopp\u00e9 de nombreux programmes de recherche sur les interactions h\u00f4te-pathog\u00e8ne et a contribu\u00e9 \u00e0 l’\u00e9laboration des programmes d’enseignement en immunologie fondamentale et clinique. Il est auteur ou coauteur de plus de quatre-vingts publications scientifiques ainsi que de plusieurs brevets. Il a particip\u00e9 \u00e0 plus de trente projets de recherche financ\u00e9s par des organismes internationaux et a dirig\u00e9 les travaux de recherche de plus de quarante \u00e9tudiants, dont six th\u00e8ses de doctorat. De juillet 2007 \u00e0 octobre 2023, Hechmi Louzir a exerc\u00e9 les fonctions de Directeur g\u00e9n\u00e9ral de l\u2019Institut Pasteur de Tunis. Il a \u00e9t\u00e9 \u00e9lu membre de l’Assembl\u00e9e de l’Institut Pasteur de Paris, membre du Conseil Ex\u00e9cutif du R\u00e9seau international des Instituts Pasteur, et a assur\u00e9 la coordination de la r\u00e9gion MATI (Maroc, Alg\u00e9rie, Tunisie, Iran) de 2008 \u00e0 2019, puis de la r\u00e9gion euro-m\u00e9diterran\u00e9enne de 2021 \u00e0 2023. Le Professeur Louzir a \u00e9galement si\u00e9g\u00e9 au sein de nombreux conseils scientifiques d’instituts et d’organisations internationales de recherche. Il a en outre agi en tant qu’expert-\u00e9valuateur pour plusieurs programmes de recherche financ\u00e9s par la Commission europ\u00e9enne et d’autres agences internationales. Pendant la crise du COVID-19, il a jou\u00e9 un r\u00f4le central dans la gestion scientifique de la pand\u00e9mie en Tunisie, en dirigeant le Comit\u00e9 scientifique de Vaccination, puis en supervisant la campagne nationale de vaccination.
